U-TILE IT YOURSELF

MEXICAN PAVER

Installing Mexican Paver Tile (saltillo) is on saltillo Mexican paver tile. Its rich earth tones bring warmth to any home. This tape will cover several different types of projects. As in all Lamb Home Videos, all tolls are demonstrated thoroughly. Due to the hand made appearance of this tile, different procedures are used. We’ll show use of the standard power wet saw as well as a mini grinder and a rod saw for making cuts. The tile project is over a large outdoor patio. We will use the grid layout method to make perfect squares to lay your tiles in. Mixing the thin set mortar and acrylic mortar is shown. Spreading the mortar with a large half inch trowel is demonstrated. After setting the saltillo tile in several rows of the grid, our instructor will create a large sea turtle mural in the patio using the leftover and scrap tile. When the mural is finished, he will follow the grid around the mural and fill in the rest of the patio. With the patio completed, we show the viewer how to tile a set of steps going into the yard. Each step will have the saltillo on top with the face done in blue mosaic tile. We then demonstrate a technique called bull nosing, which gives the edge a nice rounded finish. To highlight the are leading to the steps, we demonstrate the proper way to install an accent stripe and achieve a flush finish. We explain different ways of sealing your tile. Finally the grout is mixed and spread into the grout joints with a rubber grouting float. We’ll show you two easy methods for washing your tile as well as a final clean up. Final result… a beautiful patio.
